Library by Mail (LBM)


Are you unable to visit the Crandall Public Library to check out a book? Are you a homebound patron who is isolated from library services? The Library is committed to ensuring that library services are available to everyone. You can now have a book mailed to you through our LBM service. It allows you to have books within the Library's circulating collection delivered to your mailbox.


Frequently Asked Questions

  • Who is eligible for the service?

Crandall Public Library district residents, card holders (Glens Falls, Queensbury and Moreau) in good standing (fines and fees under $5.00).


  • How many items may I checkout?
    You may have up to 8 books checked out at a time via LBM.
  • Can every family member use this service?
    No. Only one person per family can sign up for the service.
  • How long can I keep materials?
    Items offered through Library by Mail will have their normal loan periods. A grace period of 8 days is automatically added to account for delivery periods.
  • Can I renew the books?
    There are no renewals on LBM books.
  • Are there overdue fees?
    Yes. Items are handled the same as if you came to the Library to checkout. Return is expected by the postmark date reflecting a date no later than the date the items are due.
  • What about lost or damaged items?
    You are responsible for the items and the pouch(es) (replacement fee $20.00) between date of delivery and date of return as verified by the postal service.
  • How are materials delivered to me?
    The United States Postal service will deliver materials to you in easily identified, blue reusable pouches. They will pick-up the pouches after they are contacted by phone or through the Internet for delivery back to the Library.
  • Is there a charge for this service?
    No, there is no charge to the customer. It is free to receive and free to return.
  • How can I use LBM?
    • Call the Crandall Public Library Reference Desk (518) 792-6508 x3 and tell them that you would like to reserve a book through Library by Mail.
    • Search the Library Catalog (make sure that Crandall Public Library is listed towards the top middle of the page—to select go to the upper right corner of the page where the box says “Switch to another library…” and pick Crandall Public Library (Glens Falls).
    • Once you find a title and place a request you’ll need to check “Please mail this to me.” Read the information in the yellow box too. When the title is available library staff will mail the book to you.
